The DVD says:

Near an isolated beach on the California coast, in a laboratory of horror, three renegade scientists have resurrected Frankenstein's long-dead monster... the legendary, indestructible corpse has come back to life yet again! At the same time, they've biogenetically engineered a half-man, half-fish abomination, intending to use both brutes as weapons in the worldwide fight against terrorism. However, disaster strikes when the chemical brainwashing used to control the terrifying beasts fails - instead of stopping terror, these invincible fiends spread terror! The horror begins when the amphibious beast claims its first victims - gorgeous models and their crew shooting a glamorous photo spread on the beach! Rescued and held hostage by the scientists, the survivors of the grisly rampage must find a way to escape both their mad captors and the rampaging monsters, and warn the world of the horrific danger! Shot entirely in black and white, WILLIAM WINCKLER'S FRANKENSTEIN VS. THE CREATURE FROM BLOOD COVE, is a loving homage to the classic horror films of the 1940s and the Atomic Age "creature features" of the 1950s.

My Opinion:

Not just a nod, but a bow to those black and white classic monster movies of the 40's & 50's. Frankenstein vs The Creature From Blood Cove will have you harking back to how horror movies used to be - fairly simple plots, larger than life monster's and a lot of fun. What you won't find here is the dodgy costumes and makeup that some of those original movies blatantly used. The creature outfits and makeup effects are fantastic and are certainly a major highlight to the film. The black and white filming also just enhances the movie providing the right lighting and atmosphere for a true creature feature. The one concern I had for the film was that I felt it was repetitive in places in particular with the creature fight sequences and the death scenes where a bit more variety would have been beneficial. I should also warn you that there's more than your fair share of nudity in the film. But overall it's a fun picture that doesn't take itself too seriously and is one huge homage to the early days of horror films. The DVD is packed with extras which will give you some insight into the making of the film and the actors involved and should be an example to the major studios for their DVD releases.
